The first opera of the season from Met is Musorgsky’s masterpiece Boris Godunov. At the request of the audience, we get to experience the original version from 1896. Watch it live at Schauman Hall, Saturday 9 October.
René Pape repeats his acclaimed interpretation as the Russian tsar. The opera is a psychological spectacle about man and power. The performance takes place against the background of the civil war in the 16th century, which in the history books is usually called the “great disorder”.
It is often said that if it is an opera that is to symbolize Russia, it is Boris Godunov . Thanks to the audience’s desire for shorter playing times during the pandemic, Met presents the original version from 1896, which is two hours and a quarter.
